SORSN: The offense really struggled beyond the 1st quarter against Rockwood and continuous penalties and turnovers didn’t help. A lot of “experts”, including myself, thought that it would be the Midway defense that would struggle against Rockwood but the D held them to only 7 points through nearly 3 quarters. You’ve now been a big part of the Midway defensive secondary for several years, give us your take on how the defense played. Did Rockwood do anything that surprised you?
Harley: The defense did their part well. Coach told us it would be one of the big keys to win the game so we knew that is what we had to do. Coach Never Lies!! Yes the stupid penalties hurt us too and Rockwood’s offense never really surprised us, they just played hard.
SORSN: You made the hit of the game during Seth’s scramble. Tell us about the hit..you, being the head hunter that you are, must have been smiling as you seen this unfolding in front of you. Did you ring your own bell with this hit?
Harley: Oh I was smiling just because he was bigger than me and I knew it would look good on tape, and heck yea it rang my bell too. It popped off all my chinstrap buckles, whooo what a hit.
SORSN: For those who didn’t see it, Midway had the ball and Seth was scrambling…scrambled isn’t the word for it…he ran 157 yards on one play from sideline to sideline before throwing the ball down the field for an incompletion. With Seth running towards the Midway sidelines, Harley planted his helmet right in the chest of an unsuspecting Rockwood Tiger who was in pursuit of Seth. The player would have to leave the field.
SORSN: What was the locker room like after the game?
Harley: Quiet!!!! We were mad because we knew we could have won without all the turnovers and costly penalties. Rockwood’s a good team we just couldn’t get our momentum back from them.
SORSN: It was under a minute left in the 3rd quarter before the first “SOR” chant was ever heard. And it came with Rockwood with the ball on the goal line…not once in the first half with the Waves in scoring position twice was the “SOR” chant ever muttered. Do you think the 12th man, the fans, could’ve helped the team earlier in the game?
Harley: Yes they could’ve, but they still do their part anyways. Hey at least we have the crazy fans and fence walkers that we do.
