Week 10 Interview with Coach Moser

SORSN: Coach, the Green Machine has reeled off seven consecutive victories, and now stand at an impressive 8-1 on the year. With the region secure, what is the mindset of the team and the coaching staff right now, and do you approach the final game any differently than the previous nine?

Coach Moser: The mindset of the team is positive. They want to get better. We know that if we don’t improve, then it will be a short exit from the playoffs.

We have been playing well. We are not going to change a whole lot. Only minor game plan tweeks.

The mindset of the coaches is to fine tune. We have a great staff. They are very positive, although some people say I’m HATEFUL.

SORSN: The offensive line and backfield have continued to impress the legions of SORSN.com and Greenwave followers all year. With so much talent in the backfield, is it sometimes tough to spread the football around enough in order to get all the skill position players the opportunities to shine?

Coach Moser: No. These guys just want to win.

SORSN: The off-season weight room work continues to show through for this team (it is rumored that Ray Ray’s hair alone can bench press 195 lbs ). The Green team seems to get stronger as the game and season progress. Who is your weight lifting coordinator and has he thought of selling his program to the University of Tennessee?

Coach Moser: All of our coaches are involved in off season weight training. They do an excellent job. The boys also buy into the training.

SORSN: This year’s team has already broken the school record for highest average points per game. In addition, they only need 12 points to break the record for most points in a regular season. Both of these records are held by the 1988 Green Wave team, a team that you were a member of. What do you enjoy more, being a player on the team that set these records or coaching a team that breaks those records?

Coach Moser: ’88 is a long time ago. After the season is over we can look back and reflect. Right now we must improve to make ’07 a year to be proud of.

SORSN: Final question, in your 8 years as head coach at MHS, you’ve surrounded yourself with a great staff. A look into an old annual from Kingston High..correction, Roane County High, revealed that your former line coach, Adam Houston, was the 1996 recipient of the Driver’s Ed Award. My question is how did you let such a scholar leave the program? Not only was he a coach who was well-liked by the players, but he was a genius behind the wheel. Obviously, Coach Owens has stepped in and done a fine job and sure, he is a former NFL lineman, but c’mon, he’s no Driver’s Education Award winner.

Coach Moser: I did not know this about Houston. What a humble man! I guess that was why he and Coach Gordon always argued over driving the Ag Wag. This also may explain Coach Houston’s love of Tootsie Rolls. “Know what I’m say-n”
