This was a fishing trip of a lifetime. Larry Jones, Allen Kelly, Chris Smith, and I left Kingston around 9:00 am. We were to meet up with the other two fishermen from our group in route, Don Bunbalough, Jerry DeFord. We stop by a sporting good shop that was going out of business looking for some bargains. None of use really needed anything but that did not stop us. Back on the road, 11 hours later and a couple of painful gas fill-ups and we are at our destination – Port Fourchon, Louisiana.
The trip brought us through New Orleans which is still under repairs. Blue tarp and abandon houses are still plentiful. In one area their must have been a thousand trailers that were in fields along the interstate. Later I learned that they were the FEMA trailers that were contaminated with formaldehyde.
We found the hotel and retired to our room early. I watched a little deep sea fishing programs to get pumped up for the next day’s fishing. We arrived at the marina and waited around for the first mate to arrive and that is when I over heard the captain telling the owners nine year old son that he did not think this would be a good choice for a over night trip for him to go on because of the weather. He was right!
We headed out of the harbor expecting to see 1 to 1
