What an exciting ball game last week. No, not the Bama game (Sorry Barry)….the Waves vs Blue Devils game which saw Ray Ray and HD rush for a combined 354 yards and lead the Waves to their 4th Region title in 7 years.
Yes, all is great in the Emerald Forest as the Waves polish the Region hardware; but this week the Green Waves travel to the Dark Side, Greenback, for the final region game of the regular season. The ‘kees are 4-4 (2-2) and are now in a battle with Harriman for the 4th and final playoff spot. They have an offense that is capable of putting up a lot of points…..but the questions is can they put up enough points?
The Greenback Cherokees, the team we all love to hate, still remains the biggest game of the season to many old-timers, fence walkers, and our sorsn pick panel experts.
But do our current players realize the importance of this (and every) game against Greenback? Will Mike keep his prediction under 500 words? Will Ralton reveal his family ties to Greenback? Will Barry chose UT over Midway again? The answer to all four is probably no, but we’ll see…I’ve almost been wrong before.
“The longest running rival the Waves have. To us from the old school, our evil empire wasn’t Coalfield or Harriman; it was the black and orange from Greenback. Back in the 80s they got their state title, we should have had one (Mike, remember the low flying airplanes at Donelson?).
From what I’ve heard about this ‘Kees team (from Greenback people) is that they could be good, but just haven’t learned how to “win” yet. This team could be easy to overlook, but I think Coach Moser will have our guys ready. I think it will be a clean sweep in region play this year. The ‘Kees will play us tough for 2 and 1/2 quarters, but the Waves pull away in the end. I’ll take Midway in a game that may be closer than it has to be.”

“Sounds like I traded seeing a good game for watching a terrible game. But the experience of an away Vol game was something else. When you are at Bryant-Denny Stadium with an orange shirt on, you are defiantly in hostel territory. It was a great experience but would have been better if we hadn’t got embarrassed. We left early in the 4th quarter and took the back streets to the car. Two signs on the overpasses on the way home read “Rocky Flop” and the other read something not near as nice. It was, for sure, a good time to be leaving Alabama.
Great win for the Green against Harriman and Congrats to Coach Moser’s staff and all the boys on the region championship. It’s been a great season so far but it’s not over yet.
Even though I didn’t see the game last Friday, it sounds like the offense really put on a show. Ray’s 190+ and Harley’s 150+ yards rushing is almost unheard of at any level and let’s give credit where credit is due, you don’t rush for yardage like that if the big boys up front aren’t blowing some big holes. This Midway line has really impressed me with the improvement they’ve made since pre-season scrimmage. Keep up to good job line, you don’t get much credit but we old former linemen know who is doing most of the work.
Next up is Greenback and anybody who knows anything about Greenback knows that their not gonna roll over and play dead just because we’re region champs. But if I know Coach Moser, he’s not overlooking Greenback or Wartburg and I’d say he’s telling somebody right now how good a team Greenback is. But I don’t buy it, give me the Green and let’s keep this 9-1 season rolling.

The Waves are facing our arch nemesis the Greenback Cherokees. This has been a rich rivalry for as long as I can remember. If this game doesn’t get your blood pumping; you better check your pulse. I gotta go with my boys. I think this will be a tough one. The Waves better play well and put some points up early. If it gets tight toward the close of the game; things could get fuzzy. It’s always hard to win at Greenback. Let’s go GREEN.

“Years ago, this was a real battle, but not this year…..This is an opportunity to wrap up an undefeated region schedule. Midway rolls on in a big win.”

“This week I am upping the ante a bit to the pick panel and I’m providing predictions for the next four weeks. That’s right my friends, I am going on the record today for the next four weeks. My predictions for the next four weeks are as follows:
Midway, Midway, Midway, Midway
How or why you may ask, well here’s the how and the why…
A. Midway is a better football team than Greenback and Coach Moser understands the importance of this rivalry as much as anyone SOR. I am quite sure Coach Moser remembers some of the matchups back in the mid 80’s when a loss to Greenback on a Friday meant meeting Stanley Branson’s Burma Road on the Monday afternoon following. For any of you that experienced it, you know that it was not a pleasant experience. The Vanskivvies/Glenn aerial combination is something the Green Wave will need to be prepared for (that is if the two are back on speaking terms after last week as the rumor mill has it), but the Waves simply have too much talent for the tribal nation. Although any player named Bear should be viewed as a formidable opponent along the line of scrimmage, the Waves lines will look to control the game with the rushing attack. Look for R2 (and his hair) to hammer between the tackles and the Raven to fly the coop outside the hash marks. SORSN.com provides excellent coverage from start to finish. Midway pulls away late and overcomes some horrible officiating to cap an undefeated regional season.
B. Midway is a much better football team than Wartburg and Coach Moser wants to complete the season sweep and become the mythical Morgan County champions. Midway has more than held their own against bigger school opponents this year and that trend continues this week. At least a game against the Morgan County teams guarantees Midway can get a weekly article in the Roane (or is it Morgan) County News. SORSN.com again provides excellent coverage from 1st quarter kickoff to the final seconds.
Midway wins in a game that is closer than it should be.
C. Midway is a much better football team than Team X in the first round of the playoffs. Coach Moser has the kids ready to play and the home crowd will be going nuts this week in the Emerald Forest as the playoffs kick into gear. SORSN.com provides wall to wall coverage of playoff week 1. Midway in a rout from the opening kickoff.
D. Midway is a better team than Team Y in the second round of the playoffs. Coach Moser has the kids ready to play and the home crowd will be going supernuts in the Emerald Forest as we progress to round three of the playoffs. SORSN.com provides exclusive in depth coverage of week two playoffs. The competition gets better but the outcome is the same, Midway wins pulling away late. Undefeated Hampton awaits the winner in the next round.”
