Barry Narramore: The Green took the Rockwood loss in stride last year and stormed through all the district foes. Will the Waves repeat last years run through the district? I don’t believe they will, but Oakdale will not be the team to stop them, even though the Eagles will be better than last year. Midway by 2 touchdowns.
Ralton Emory: Oakdale will “Tapout” – Waves will win after 3 quarters of close ball.
Jeff Hill: OK, last week I went with my heart and not my head as did Ralton. So this week I’m going with my gut…the game will be close for the first half but Coach will make the correct adjustments and The Mighty Waves will roll in the 2nd half. Waves by 14.
Randy Rose: My guess is practice was not fun this week in the land of SOR. This week is gut check time and some seniors need to step up and be leaders and help get this team on track. Pull together as a team, work hard, and get better each week. It starts this week on the mountain at Oakdale. I’ll take Midway.
Amber Johnson: I can’t remember the last time Oakdale beat us, and I’d like to think the trend will continue…but the way the teams have flip-flopped you better not count anyone out. We still got some work to do. Midway
Michael Rose: The Green Team from South of the River, coming off their annual whipping at the hands of cross town rival Rockwood, again hit the road this week on the curvy roads way beyond Harriman to take on the Oakdale Eagles. Midway desperately needs a win to get back on track, while Oakdale would take a good performance of any kind.
The Green Wave team experienced a big let down this past Friday as they flew into Rockvegas looking to start the season with a fast 2-0 record. Rockwood was coming off a surprising big loss to single A Oneida, while Midway looked impressive in beating 3A Clairborne County. Midway was looking to put an end to Rockwood’s domination of the SOR gang and all indications were that this could be the year. Well sports fans, to put it mildly, that didn’t happen. What did happen was this: turnovers, mistakes, and penalties by Midway and an opponent that was physically and mentally tougher. From the opening drive to the closing bell, Rockwood was the better team Friday night and exposed some serious chinks in this Midway teams armor.
Multiple sources deep and close to the SOR program report some concerns for this team. The running game has struggled at times, the passing attack has question marks and the defense keeps getting torched on the edges. Coach Moser needs to circle the troops in a little tighter this week and get some focus back into the Midway team. With Oneida and Harriman lurking out there in Region play, this team must get better, tougher and more focused very quickly, else they will be scrambling for a three or four seed come playoff time.
Will I pick an upset with the Oakdale team this week? Not on your life, the Raven should get back in flight and Ray will look to dish out some punishment as well. Midway simply has too much talent for Oakdale. As for the rest of the season, well that is a different story. The balance of this season will be decided by how the men in Green respond in the next couple of weeks…This game could serve as a launching pad for better things or a ho hum effort in a mediocre season.. I will take Midway in a rout…
