Pick Panel chimes in on Sequatchie Cty

This week the Waves travel to Sequatchie County. Last year, Midway destroyed them 48-3….but that was last year. Sequatchie County is a perfect 5-0 on the season with wins over Pigeon Forge, Whitwell, and Bledsoe County.

Midway is coming off a victory over Coalfield where they showcased a well balanced offense for the first time this season with Pressley tossing the ball down field to an aggressive Roberson and the defense played a perfect game.

Can the Waves repeat last years performance and beat Sequatchie County or will Midway be just another notch in the belt for the unbeaten Sequatchie County tribe?

Let’s see what the Pick Panel thinks of the match up.

“This week is a tough pick. Midway sounds like they’re clicking on all cylinders…but I don’t know if that is gonna be enough to throw a wrench in Sequatchie County’s (so far) perfect season. On top of that it’s a road game. We will need some big plays and the defense standing strong to go down there and take one from them.

Boys, you’re gonna have to be fired up for this one. I pick Midway; taking it on the road!!!”

“Well this week brings us another tough pick…. on paper! While researching the Indians from Sequatchie County, I have come to conclusion that they are fixing to start their downfall. Their first half of the schedule looks like a Pee Wee schedule so it is no wonder that they are 5-0 to start the year. The Indians are probably still a little sore from last years beating and starting out the year 5-0 they might think that they have the upper hand in this game. But to the contrary they do not. The Mighty Waves will head south not wanting to make the long trip home with a loss. Since the year 2000 the Indians are 28-57. After friday they can go ahead and mark another notch to the loss coulum. The Mighty Waves roll in this one, not easy, but still a win. Waves by 7.”

“Did Midway beat Coalfield last week? I think Ron Hall’s ribs and all the great food at the tailgate party held my attention too long last week. What a great tradition that’s been started in the South end zone parking lot. Grab a tray of something and join us Greenwave fans before most home games

This week we travel to Sequatchie County who are 5-0, but I don’t think that unbeaten streak will survive. Our Green team has to much speed…give me the Waves”
Barry “Boo” Narramore

“Midway needs to be ready for a battle as Sequatchie Co. is much improved with a new coach and a lot of excitement in the valley. I think most all of Dunlap will turn out for this game, so the boys from SOR can expect a hostile environment. The Green has a chance for a big win over a 2A school, and I think it will be close. Give me Midway.”

“I hate to say it, but I am going to go with Sequatchie this week. Not that I don’t think the Waves can’t play with them, but having to travel that far always takes a toll on the visiting team.

It will be a dog fight and the Green won’t give up, but they just won’t have enough in the end.”

We’ve opted to shorten the probation period of Pick Panel member Mike Rose and lift the word-count limitation. Much like Coach Fulmer’s contract extension, we hope this is not a decision that we come to regret.

“Coach CF Mosers’ Lean Green Threshing Machine hits the road this week for a long and costly trip (diesels expensive you know) somewhere down toward Dunlap to the land of Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatchie County. The Waves, when last seen, were running up some serious stats on the Bituminous Rockheads and even poor Herman from Coalfield has not been heard from on the Sportsanimal morning radio show since last Friday morning.

Sasquatchie County has also been making some noise with a fast 5-0 start under first year coach Barger and have moved up to a #7 ranking in their respective classification (don’t ask us to explain the classification system, its more difficult to understand than Coach Stanley Galyon’s Algebra class). However, this is the Indians first true tough test of the season as the schedule has been more than kind to the Sasquatches so far.

The bottom line is this: This Indian team is much better than last years group that was soundly whipped by the Waves in the Emerald Forest. The Waves looked better against Coalfield and the bye week seemed to heal some nagging injuries that the Green Team was carrying. The Waves better strap it on tight this week and going forward as the next four weeks will basically make or break this teams season. The Waves and Coach Mo know another tribal group awaits them next week in the region with projected state champion Oneida looming next Friday (the message boards and prognosticators are predicting Oneida runs the table). This feels like the proverbial trap game and the Waves could easily get caught looking past the Sasquatches.

Sasquatchies defense is tough and will look to punish R2 on the inside runs while keeping the Raven from flying to the corner. Look for the Indians to dare the Waves to throw, and some opportunities for an aWakoning of Midways passing game to occur is possible. Midways defense should be able to hold the Indians in check as the SC offense has been less than spectacular. This shapes up to be a defensive battle and special teams and field position will be key.

Does Midway have it in them to turn it on two weeks in a row? Will Sasquatchie County wear those awful gold paints? If Sasquatchie County wins will their fans rush the field like last week? This looks like an excellent matchup, but I will give Coach Moser’s crew a very very slight edge this week.”
