2009 Pick Panel – Week 1 Predictions

Wartburg started their season last week with a 12-20 loss to Monterey. An interception with less than 3 minutes to play sealed the win for Monterey.

Last year, the Waves & Bull Dogs faced off on Halloween with the Waves getting all the treats, winning 33-7. However, Wartburg brings a deep ball team this year. The Bull Dogs field an experienced group of guys with 9 seniors and 12 juniors.

Can the Waves open the season with a win on the road or will the Bull Dogs be best in show Friday night?

Lady & gents…make your picks!

“Before I get to my pick this week, I want to say that our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Jake Logue from Sullivan South. As well, to the players and families of West High School.

As far as the pick, first game jitters will play a factor early. Wartburg sees this game as a winnable one for the Dawg Pound. With their experience and with one game under their belts, they will start stronger. Also, the Dawgs in blue have been on the short end of the stick for several years and want to claw back into contention.

That being said, I believe Coach Mo and the other coaches have this Waves team ready to go. Weather the early storm, don’t make mistakes, and come off the mountain with a victory. Waves by 7.”
– Ralton Emory

“This appears to be the year Thomas Viar takes the reins for the Midway Greenwaves but Viar is still young and a ton of weight has been placed on this 10th grader’s shoulders.

Viar has worked hard this off-season and appears much more poised in the pocket and quicker in avoiding the rush.

The Midway boys have not been pushed around much in pre-season scrimmages with all the play dates ending in close scores. The Green has lost some speed with the departures of Ray Ray and other seniors.

Wartburg’s QB Rusty Phillips is family on the wife’s side but I don’t think Rusty will be able to turn the Green Tide. This may be the year that Barry has to pick against the Waves but it won’t be this first week. Midway in a close one. Go big Green!!!!!”
– Barry Narramore

“You know I don’t care what kinda threat the “bulldogs” bring any time. I can’t stand to even think about them winning. I just can’t stand em’, it’s pretty simple so I am definitely pickin the Greenwaves on this one.”
– Kyle Canup

“Excitement is in the air, it’s football time South of the River and all across the state. Can the Green get out of the chute with a win? I think so. Give me Midway.”
– Randy Rose

“Waves start slow but out power in the end….Waves win.”
– Amber Johnson

“Midway by two touchdowns.”
– Michael Rose

Seriously? That’s all we’re getting from Michael “Corso” Rose? It appears Mike is still suffering from writers-cramp after his Bristol article.
