Girls Game
In the words of the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan, the house was a ‘rockin as SOR was SRO (Standing Room Only) for tonight’s much-ballyhooed showdown with the hated orange and navy blue team from the north end of the river. Armed with much-improved warm-up music tonight, the return of the “Midway Maniac”, and with all the buzz from last year’s donny-brook that saw a Kingston fan in a neck brace kicked out of the gymnasium, the Midway Lady Waves took to the hard-wood to face off against the Kingston Lady Jackets (or as Yankees north of the river refer to them as “Roane County High School”). But alas, the night did not belong to the Lady Waves, as Kingston started the game on a 10-0 tilt to take an early 18-6 lead at the end of the opening period and the orange and navy blue team stretched that lead to 29-11 at half-time. The one lone bright-spot for the Lady Waves was Hayley Roberson scoring her 1,000th career point in the third period as Kingston stretched the lead to 44-16 and cruised in the final period to a 62-29 win. The leading scorers for Midway were Hayley Roberson (9 points, 7 boards), Halie Wiley (7 points), and Allyson “Colonel” Klinker (dated reference #1 for the SORSN.com readers) had 6 points while Darian Shultz had 5 boards in the loss. Tonight was the final home game for Midway senior Audrey Bullard.

Boys Game
And now, we get to the main-event of the evening. In, quite possibly, one of the better pre-game hijinx rituals from the “Midway Maniacs”, they took a page out of the Lebron James playbook and tossed ash in the air to psych-out the team from the other side of the bridge. Both teams had colder shooting than a drink from the Riverbend Market & Grill as Kingston managed to eke out a 7-5 first period advantage. But
the second period belonged to the Jackets as they used a 14-6 run to take a 21-11 half-time lead. The boys from “South Of the River” scored the first three points of the period, but gave up a 23-8 tilt after that to make the score 44-22 going into the final stanza as the hated orange and navy blue team cruised to a 60-35 win, but one bright spot of the final period was “The American Dream” Dusty Hope packing a
Kingston player like UPS and getting the SOR faithful on their feet in the closing seconds of the loss. Adam “Doogie” Houser (dated reference #2) had 8 points and 5 boards while Caleb Ruffner had 7 points and 8 boards in the loss. Thomas “Light My” Viar (dated reference #3 of this article) had 5 boards in the loss. The game was the final home game for seniors Jake “The Snake” Parkison and Josh “Danger” Manning.
