Lady Waves Continue Winning Push

After getting a big shutout win over AA McMinn Central last Friday, the Midway Lady Waves traveled to Tellico to pick up another district victory on Monday. The Lady Waves cruised to a 12-5 win in that game, but it would be much closer when the Lady Bears came to Midway on Thursday evening to complete the series.

With regular catcher Christina Stansbury out of town for a few days, senior Paige Moree left the outfield and moved back to her old familiar spot behind the dish. Moree’s strong arm would figure into the game early, as she fired the ball to short stop Hayley Patterson to gun down Tellico’s lone runner in the first inning.

The score board read all zero’s until the bottom of the second, when the Midway bats got cracking. Big hits by first baseman Taylr Hall and third baseman Hali Morris factored into Midway scoring four runs in the frame.

Midway's Hali Morris was a major contributor in Thursday's game.

For the rest of the contest, Tellico slowly built momentum. The Lady Bears tacked on a run here and there until their deficit was cut to 4-3 in the top of the sixth. Moree and Morris caught a Tellico runner in a pickle between third and home to help get the Lady Waves out of a jam and escape the inning with the lead intact.

Some smart base running helped Midway pad their lead by one run in the bottom of the sixth, but tension was still high on “The Hill”.

Tellico put a runner in scoring position in the final inning of play, but solid fielding by Patterson and Hall gave the SOR girls two outs. Pitcher Alex Richardson slammed the door on the Lady Bears’ comeback hopes with a big strikeout. Final Score: Lady Waves 5, Tellico 3.

Leading hitters for the Lady Waves on Thursday included Hali Morris (1-2, RBI), Halie Wiley (1-2), Taylr Hall (1-3, RBI) and Taylor Narramore (1-3, RBI). Alex Richardson picked up the win from the pitching circle.

This Friday and Saturday, the Lady Waves will be at the Knoxville Sports Complex for the Halls Invitational Tournament.
