The Midway Green Waves notched a big district win over the Tellico Bears on Monday evening, thanks in part to junior Thomas Viar. Starting at pitcher, Viar threw a five inning no-hitter to shut Tellico out. The final score was 14-0.
Viar had a perfect game going in the top of the fifth. After retiring the first Tellico batter, he hit the second one with a pitch. Viar soon recovered, and he struck out the next two batters to end the game. Midway’s defense was solid in support, with no errors. Viar had a total of five strike outs, with no walks.
The Green Wave offense provided more than enough help. Leading hitters on the day included Viar himself, who hit 2 for 3 with a home run and 4 RBI’s. Freshman Christian Moore also dinged a homer, going 1 for 2 with 3 RBI’s. Other top hitters included Jonathon Barnett (2-2, 2B, 3 RBI), Jake Parkison (2-3, RBI) and Josh Manning (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI).
