After being rained out of last Thursday’s big game at Kingston, the MMS Lady Waves were back in action at home on Monday evening. The SOR girls hosted the Lady Tigers of Rockwood under an overcast sky with intermittent sprinkles of rain. The heavy stuff held off, however, and the girls got to stay on the field and take care of business.
The first two innings were a bit of a struggle for the Lady Wave defense. Several errors led to two Rockwood runs in the first two frames. Thankfully, the Midway offense was clicking and the Lady Waves kept pace with the Lady Tigers run for run.
After the second inning, Midway’s defense settled down. The bats kept pinging for the Lady Waves, and they slowly but surely pulled away from Rockwood. When the time limit expired after the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Waves had claimed a decisive 5-2 victory.
Pitcher Raygn Hall had another impressive outing for Midway. Hall struck out eight Rockwood batters, walking none and allowing only one hit.
Midway’s top hitters included first baseman Kallie Sohm (2-2, 3B, RBI), Hall (2-2, 2B, RBI) and second baseman Kayla Borum (1-2, 2B, 2 RBI).
On Tuesday, the Lady Waves will travel to Rockwood to complete the series with the Lady Tigers. No word yet on the make-up game with Kingston.
