The Greenwave (2-6) will have their final home game of the season this Friday as the Hancock Indians (2-5) visit the Emerald Forest. The last 2 weeks have not been good for SOR football fans; however, the Waves have a great opportunity to pick up a win this week if they can come together as a team and execute. Team/player/practice issues leave us football fans to question if the Waves have already turned it in for the season. I hope not.
Though we are seeing difficult times now; there is hope. Some young Green Waves are sticking their chests out and stepping up. They may take some bumps and bruises along the way but they will be gaining experience that they can fall back on over the next couple of years. It won’t be long until the chants of “S-O-R” echoes through the Emerald Forest once again. That said, we’re anxious to see who steps up this week.
Last year, Hancock squeaked out a 2 point victory over the Waves. Can they right the ship, restore some pride and get a win this Friday? Or are the rumors that they’ve already quit true?
It’s hard to have fun with the website during times like this……so I’ll turn it over to the Pick Panel to see if they can generate a laugh and a correct pick.
Ralton Emory:
The 56th ranked Indians come visit the 59th ranked Waves in what can only be described as a battle of heart. Whoever watches the movie “True Grit” before the game may actually win. Does anyone else think the movie “Real Steel” is just an updated version of “Rockem’ Sockem’ Robots”?
I digress. Let’s get back to the topic at hand. Has Midway given up? Can they avenge the heart-breaker from last year? How many more trips to Buffalo Wild Wings can Mike Rose make during the course of the season to ensure outcomes match his picks? Points to ponder…
Can Midway win…yes. Will Midway win…nope.
Hancock by 2.
Randy Rose:
You only get so many chances to put on the Green jersey and play at home on a Friday night. This is the last time for this season I’m going to take the Green to pull together and get the win.
Kyle Canup:
I believe that Midway will get the win this week in their final home game and I hope that one day mine and Barry’s picks will be the correct picks and all of the other panel will be jumping on our wagon. It may be a tight game Friday night but Midway gets the W.
Barry Narramore:
Well, it’s been a rough season so far for the Greenwaves. One thing I would like to say is THANK YOU! Thank you to the boys who are still coming to practice and showing up on Friday night to give their all. When a team is struggling it is easy to give up the fight but I still see a lot of determination in a lot of our Greenwave boys. Those players are who we are rebuilding our program on. Those players leadership will carry us through in the years to come.
I played my last game for the Greenwaves right at 26 years ago. I played during some winning seasons and losing seasons. I’m just as proud to of strapped on the Green today as I was 20 years ago. Boys, you only get so many games and you’re gonna miss this when it’s gone. That’s the truth! So strap it on and go kick some Hancock Co butt!!!! Give me the Waves and the 3rd win of the year!
Michael Rose:
While I would really like to go Boo Narramore this week and pick the Green Waves, my connections deep south of the river tell me that the wheels seriously came off the wagon a couple weeks ago in the Emerald Forest. Off the field and team discipline issues have torpedoed the hopes of what was already a young team overall. It appears as if Freshman and Sophomores will be finishing out this season in prominent roles, due to many of the upper classman taking early or extended winter break. It seems that the Green machine has been down this path before in the past couple of years and this recurrent theme has severely impacted Midways ability to rebuild the program. The Green program needs some upper classman devoted to helping get the rebuilding project off the ground. While it’s not much fun getting beat on by some of the better programs around (back in previous years it was the Webbs, Alcoas and Sweetwaters type schools), it also served as a measuring stick to where you were as a team, and where you aspired to be. You simply nursed your wounds, got better in practice and vowed to take it out on Vonore or Charleston the next week. A couple classes of upper classman need to see this through in order to advance the program from the bottom of the district.
My advice to the younger guys is: “next man up.” You guys have the opportunity to play and play now, so get in there and do your best. Learn from your mistakes, play hard and never stop competing, no matter what the score. You can rest in the offseason.
This week’s pick, begrudingly, is Hancock County.
Amber Johnson:
This week the Waves are gonna have to pick their selves up and in the esteemed words of rapper Jay Z “Dust your shoulders off.” These boys are taking some hard knocks but from that; you learn a lot. It takes a lot of pride to keep playing hard after you’re down. Win or lose, it means more to me on how tough you play. Make the Hancock Co. boys remember they played you. Get to head hunting and popping the pads!
Let’s see what the Midway boys are made of. Don’t let me down. Midway in a dog fight.
