Girls Game
The Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team had a moral victory of sorts by playing Duke to within 10 points and Memphis to two overtimes this past week. The Midway Lady Waves had their own sort of moral victory on “Black Friday” by playing a very tough Oakdale Lady Eagles squad to within eight points in a hard-fought 53-45 loss that left the girls from “South Of the River” seeing Oakdale red. The Lady Waves scored the first two points of the game, but perhaps their awful warm-up music affected their shooting momentarily in the first period as Oakdale went on a 9-0 surge to take a 9-2 lead. The Lady Waves recovered from their post-holiday shooting hang-over void of tigers in
a bathroom or any other odd shenanigans to close to within 13-9 at the end of the first period. Oakdale pulled out to a 19-9 lead thanks to a 6-0 run to start the second period. Midway closed to within 21-17 thanks to an 8-2 surge before Oakdale pulled away to a 25-19 half-time lead. Oakdale used a 6-0 surge to start the third period to take a 31-19 lead before pulling out to a 39-25 lead at the end of the third period. The girls from “South Of the River” however, were not about to go down without a fight. The Lady Waves used a 7-1 tilt at one stretch in the final period to get within 53-45 at the end of the game. The Lady Waves had a 44-28 edge on the boards but lost in team steals
13-6. The Lady Waves were led by Hali Morris (17 points, 7 boards), and Hayley Roberson (13 points, 6 boards). Jessie Lewis (12 boards), Allyson Klinker (5 boards & 5 assists), and Alisa Barger (5 boards) all played well in the loss.

Boys Game
The boys from “South Of the River” used “tenacious D” (minus a pick of destiny) and an impressive offensive performance that left the Oakdale Eagles “green with envy” at the awesomeness of Midway’s impressive 68-50 display of, as the great Charlie Sheen would say, “winning”. Midway started off the game on a 15-6 run before allowing Oakdale to get within 15-12 before the boys from “South Of the River” scored the last three points of the first period to take an 18-12 lead. The “Mean Green Offensive Machine” used a 17-2 tilt at one stretch of the second period to take a 38-20 half-time lead. Midway stretched the lead to 52-33 at the end of the third period and cruised to the 68-50 win. The
Waves had a 39-28 edge on the boards and an 11-6 tilt in team steals. Midway was led in scoring by Caleb “Roughing ‘Em Up” Ruffner (14 points, 5 boards, 5 steals), Matt “Money” Jarvis (13 points, 3 treys), while Thomas ‘The Chairman Of The Boards” Viar had more boards than 84 Lumber in his double-double (12 points, 15 boards), along with a little “Clower Power” in the form of Clay Clower (10 points, 7 boards), Shandon “Shoot ‘Em Up” Lyle (7 points) and Dusty “Gold-Dust” Hope (5 boards) also contributed to the win.
