Midway sweeps Harriman

Girls Game

Usually, the SOR faithful travel to Harriman hoping to exorcise some Blue Devils. Well, the girls game certainly made the Lady Waves faithful’s heads spin a la Linda Blair in “The Exorcist”, but in the end, the girls from “South Of the River” eked out a 34-32 win over the
much-despised blue and white team from the middle of Roane County. Harriman took the early 8-2 lead before the Lady Waves battled back with six unanswered points to tie the game at 8-8 before Harriman took the lead back with a late basket to make the score 10-8 at the end of
the first period. Harriman would take a 19-16 lead to the locker room despite forcing 12 steals from the Midway offense . The Lady Devils had a 25-21 lead at the end of the third period and all looked bleak for the Midway faithful. In the final stanza, the Lady Waves overcame their shooting woes and questionable officiating to have a 9-3 surge to take a 30-28 lead. Harriman would tie the game at 30-30 and again at 32-32. The Midway faithful needed a miracle to likely spare some of the SOR fans from potentially jumping off a bridge in Harriman and they got one from Hali Morris with 30 seconds left in the game to take the 34-32 win. Midway had a 42-39 edge on the boards but lost in team steals 19-10. Alisa Barger (12 points, 6 boards) and Hayley Roberson (11 points) led the Lady Waves in scoring with Hali Morris (12 boards), Taylor Whitehead (8 boards), Allyson Klinker (7 boards), and
Jessie Lewis (6 boards) coming up with enough boards for the Lady Waves to open up a lumberyard on school property.

Boys Game

Like the infamous “Honey Badger”, the boys from “South Of the River” didn’t care that they were down 22-7 at the end of the first period. They used a 23-5 second period to take the half-time lead and never look back en route to a 53-49 win over the Harriman Blue Devils. The
Devils bedeviled the Waves in the opening period, using a 16-4 tilt to start the game to guide the blue-and-white team to an early 22-7 lead. But the second period saw “SOR Basketball” come to the forefront with a 23-5 tilt high-lighted with a show-stoppin’, crowd-poppin’, body-rockin’, pulse-poundin’, Harriman faithful-cryin’ dunk by Caleb Ruffner to take a 30-27 half-time lead.

Midway doubled the lead to 45-39 at the end of period number three before using an 8-3 tilt at one point in the final period to take a 53-42 lead. Harriman made things interesting down the stretch with a 7-0 surge to cut the final deficit down to 53-49. Harriman had a 28-26 edge on the boards but Midway used an 11-3 swing in team steals to give them the win. Matt “Money” Jarvis (15 points, 5 boards), Caleb Ruffner (8 points), Logan Davidson (8 points, and Thomas “The Chairman Of The Boards” Viar (7 points, 9 boards, 6 assists) all led the Waves in the win.
