Pick Panel goes all in for Green

The (0-1) Waves travel to (0-1) Whitwell as both teams are still looking for that big shining moment. Whitwell suffered a thumpin’ courtesy of Copper Basin last week, while the Waves COULD have went into the half tied with Lookout Valley but one play made the difference and it was a 12-0 score at the break.

Last year, Whitwell’s only win came via the Waves as they pulled off a big victory at the Emerald Forest. But last year’s Greenwave team was much, much different than this year’s squad. A total team effort and lots of heart by the Waves was on display last Friday night. If they can mustard up that kind of effort this week, the Waves could get their first win of the season.

Panel, let’s hear your prediction.

Steven Sears:
In my opinion, Midways first road game of the season is more than likely going to determine how the rest of their season is going to go. Whitwell (0-1) and (1-9) last year doesn’t look like their quite ready to make that run at the state championship although there are rumors of them picking up the infamous Honey Badger in the off season. Copper Basin put a 41-8 thumping on the Tigers from Whitwell last week and I don’t see their future looking much better for the upcoming game. I’m taking Midway this week. Although this isn’t a district game, the Greenwaves better bring their “A” game this week. If being Whitwell’s only victory last season doesn’t make them furious, then I don’t know what will. This week Midway takes an 18-8 victory over the Whitwell Tigers.

Amber Johnson:
This should be a pretty good match-up for Midway; Whitwell took one away from us last year at home. Let’s return the favor this year. Going with Midway in a close one.

Tony Clower:
The Green Wave suffered a tough loss in the opener, but there were some bright spots throughout the game. I am convinced the Green Wave will cut down on turnovers, overcome the long ride to Whitwell and come out with a victory, 16-12, to even their record at 1-1.

Kyle Canup:
Although the Waves never found the end zone Friday night I have heard some good things about the young squad, and I think once they get these kinks worked out they’ll be a pretty good ball team. Despite some turnovers and some big plays it looks as if Midway played a really good ball team pretty close. I expect Coach Campbell to have a solid week of practice and take the Waves on the road to get their first W of the season, and hopefully some momentum with it as well.

Ralton Emory:
This will be a good test for the young Wave team to see if they can bounce back from a disappointing loss. However, a loss is truly a loss only if you do not learn from it and grow from it.

The Panthera tigris of Whitwell will also be looking to grow from their first week thrashing they took from Copper Basin. Will the Waves have travel legs and lose number two for the season? Will we truly find out if large solitary cats are afraid of water? Does Garfield really eat lasagna? Oh, wait…different discussion.

Waves win a close battle and avenge last year’s loss.

Midway 7, Whitwell Cubs 6

Evidently we can kick a PAT now.

Barry Narramore:
Disappointing opener last week for the Green, but at least Lookout Valley’s all state running back knew he’d been in a football game. The Green teams defense did a fair job of laying some licks on the speedster tailback. That said the offense did show some signs of a running game early but turnovers were a killer the whole game. I look for the Greenwaves to hold on to the ball and put enough points on the board to even up their record this week at 1-1.
Go Big Green!!!
