Game 4 Pick

The Waves begin district play this Friday as the Cherokees of Greenback visit the Emerald Forest. To say the Waves are an underdog is…well…..very, very accurate. The ‘kees have scored a combined 151 points in just 3 games. Including a 55-0 beat down of Oliver Springs. The Greenback defense has only allowed one touchdown in three games.

On the bright side, Midway is coming off a 38-8 win over Pickett County; followed by a week off to help heal some bumps and bruises. Will the extra week of preparation set the stage for an upset by the Waves? Let’s turn to the panel to get their take…..

Steven Sears:
Rivalry week! Midway vs. Greenback and Tennessee vs. Florida. This is what we all have been waiting for and both games are very important to the layout of the rest of their team’s seasons. Midway will have a huge challenge when the Cherokees come to Emerald Forest on Friday and they better be focused and ready to play some hard-nosed football. I have always considered Greenback our #1 rivalry and I would love nothing more than Midway to get a W in their first district matchup. Time of possession and turnover free football will be crucial for Midway. Unfortunately, I am picking Greenback to win this matchup, but hoping Midway makes me eat my words. Greenback 42 – 12 over Midway.

Tony Clower:
I am a native Midway Green Wave, and I know the intensity of this rival with the Greenback Cherokees. A win over Greenback in anything is always a big win. It really pains me to make this pick, but I am going to have to go with the Cherokees in this one 42-6. I certainly hope I am wrong and we score the big upset; go Big Green.

Barry Narramore:
Go big Green!!!

Amber Johnson:
Glad to see Midway pick up their first win against Pickett Co. a couple of weeks ago. With the open date last Friday, hopefully Coach Joe has a game plan against the high-octane offense of Greenback. I’m a sucker for an underdog, but this week Greenback just has too much experience on both sides of the ball. Picking Greenback this week.

On a side note, win or lose….let the ‘Kees know they made a stop through the Emerald Forest.

Kyle Canup:
I am so glad to see that the Waves got that 0 off the front in of their record two weeks ago. From what I’ve gathered Greenback seems to be one of the better teams in the area and have a super high powered offense. I hope the Waves play them tough and can get some good experience from facing such a solid ball team, but I don’t think they have enough to pick up the W on Friday night.

Ralton Emory:
Originally, I was going to pick the “William Blount Rejects” (aka Greenback) in a landslide, but then Louisiana Monroe beat Arkansas and opened my eyes to underdog stories again. There is hope. That is why we play the games. So there is hope.

The real Green team is outgunned in this one so things will definitely need to fall our way in order to get the upset. Maybe someday, Greenback will learn to play with students from only one county….oh wait…did I say that out loud… 🙂

Honestly, all in good fun, as the Midway vs. Greenback rivalry goes back many, many years. But it will be an early night I fear as the mercy rule will be on display but not for the right team.

WBR 35 Midway 0
