Interview with Coach O’Toole

Special teams coach, Justin O’Toole

SORSN: Caleb Splawn joins a very elite club of famous Greenwave kickers and by elite we mean two: Alessandro “Zolie” Zoletti and Tanner “Golden Toe” Roberson. While Tanner was highly known for his on-side kick abilities; Zolie, like Caleb, was an exchange student with a soccer background and a marksman at field goals. You were a teammate of Zolie’s, can you draw any other comparisons between the two kickers?

Coach O’Toole: All three were very good kickers and all three won games for Midway. The biggest difference was in practice if Zolie hit the crossbar kicking field goals everyone would hear about it and it was so funny to see/hear his reactions. (If you were there you would know)

SORSN: Splawn is typically the first person down the field on kick-offs; which differs from a lot of kickers who are typically the safety valve. Why do we see the guy with most famous foot south of the river, going head-hunting 40 yards down the field?

Coach O’Toole: Can’t contain that fire and desire of the man from across the pond

SORSN: Candy Crush, ESPN’s ScoreCenter, Food Network After Dark. There are literally millions of iphone apps on the market today. Give us your top 3 apps and why.

Coach O’Toole: Healthy food options, fashion police app, and Disney Radio. Top 3 no doubt and I try to live by them all.

SORSN: For the 2nd year in a row, Midway will travel to Cloudland for a playoff game. It’s a long drive, allowing Coach Joe plenty of time to work on his pregame speech. You’ve played for Coach Branson; a quite coach not known for having to “talk up” his team. You also played basketball for Coach Ruffner; a coach who’s pregame chatter decades-past players still love to imitate today. What do you think the context of Coach Joe’s speech to the team before Friday night’s game will consist of?

Coach O’Toole: Campbell has given some great speeches alright. Alright they may ramble alright, and then hit some topics of importance alright, and then I kinda blackout alright, alright then he says lets go alright. And then I’m happy because he’s finally done talking. Alright!!!

SORSN: Short Answer Questionnaire:
Is it true: once you pop, you can’t stop? Still popin
Song Coach Joe best likes to twerk to? Baby got back! (but has thrown his back out twerking)
What will be higher in Saturday night’s alumni basketball game: mine & your resting heart rate or Ralph’s cholesterol? Not looking forward to this Saturday at all. Coach Ruffner needs to wash them jerseys differently; they seem to shrink more and more each year.

SORSN: What has led to the resurgence of the SOR defense as the year has progressed?

Coach O’Toole: Not really for sure but I know Minton wears a Sweat Band with “Free JS” written on it and he seems to have dedicated this season to some famous defensive coordinator with the initials JS. He just won’t say who.

SORSN: Traveling highway 72 on a Sunday afternoon, one always sees the coaches at the field house for their weekly coaches meeting. Give us all an insight as to what a typical Sunday coaches meeting is like at the Emerald Forest.

Coach O’Toole: A well prepared meal from a refreshed coaching staff, good camaraderie between each other, and a willingness to always stay on topic

Coach good luck Friday night.
