Pick Panel chimes in on tshirt conspiracy and Pay for Play

The Waves once again played an ugly, ugly game last week…….yet still had a chance to win the game. An ugly played game this Friday, will result in a blow-out. After starting the season 4-0, the Waves have dropped the last 2 games and now enter the teeth of the district schedule with Grace, Meigs, Rotwood and Greenback all waiting for their turn to pop the Green in the mouth like Sunbright and Harriman did.

Grace Christian Academy, the most beloved team in District 3A……at least by TSSAA, is 5-2 (3-0) on the season and have a roster full of playmakers. The injury bug has definitely played a factor in the outlook for the 2014 Waves. Midway couldn’t afford any injuries to their thin sideline but injury is part of the game. This has resulted in Coach Campbell playing kids in various positions outside of their comfort zone and has also impacted the playing calling. A team that came into the season with a balanced attack and an experienced line, is now searching for its identity late in the season. Time to step up O-line.

Pick panel members, can the Waves right the ship? More importantly, is the Luke Bryan t-shirt photo real?

Ralton Emory:
Hate to say it, but the Waves may have peaked and are digging themselves into a hole. Injuries and just the stress of the season are starting to take its toll.

Not getting easier from here.

Waves fall in this one. Won’t be close.

And the tshirt….well, I’ve been fooled before, but not this time. My little brother once coached at Greenback and still has many friends in the area (obviously I’m my mother’s favorite) so I have a good source to confirm that it is real.

Amber Johnson:
More insult to injury this week I’m afraid….Grace (Blah)

Kyle Canup:
Injuries have taken its toll on the waves and the coaches are moving guys to play other positions is a tough thing to deal with mid-season. Coach Campbell and the Waves are dealing with the cards they’re dealt. They got a tough one this week and unfortunately it’s a team we always would like to beat. Hopefully the waves can figure something out to get through the season. Still have plenty of games this year to play so hopefully it will pan out. I think the waves come up short this week but I don’t think there will be a blowout. Waves can play ball but this week I got Grace ahead. 35-24

As for the t-shirt, I follow Luke Bryan on tweeter…and Instagram….and Pinterest and I can say that last week wasn’t the first time Luke has worn some MHS branded apparel.

Steven Sears:
This week’s game doesn’t get any easier for the Greenwaves as they travel to Grace Christian Friday night to take on the Rams. Midway (4-2) is coming off 2 game losing streak and will need to dig deep into their arsenal to pull off the upset on the much favored team from Knox County. Meigs County had a tight game last week against Grace, but ended up coming up short losing 13-6. Does Midway have what it takes to pull off the upset? I believe they do, but taking care of the ball, good snapping, and penalty free football are a must. Will Barry get to do his long overdue victory dance in his whitey tighties on Friday night? I’m going to have to say no to that disturbing question and take the favored Rams. Midway loses in a close one. Grace 28-21 over the Greenwaves.

Barry Narramore:
A wise young lady named Haley Parks told me one time when asked about Santa Claus. Haley stated “I believe because I receive” so since I want to believe in the Luke Bryan tshirt story I will believe in it!!

Last week’s loss at Harriman was a huge disappointment for the team and fans. It was one of those games that would be fun to watch if your team wins. The Green once again dug a first quarter hole too deep to climb back out. Huge mistakes bit our boys. Mishandled snaps, penalties, coverage breakdowns on third downs just to name a few of the problems and with all this, the team still managed to keep it close. Close to the point the game was not decided until late in the fourth quarter. Jon Beason again played like a beast, but the limited options, due to injuries, for QB Jake Woody has slowed the Waves offense. Even so the green team are still grinding out big yards behind the huge and experienced line of Hester, Collier, the Patterson’s, Crabtree and Burton. The injury riddled defense has been pretty solid up the middle where Sophomore Linebacker Dakota Narramore had been a steady force all year long behind that big Midway front 5. Coach Minton continues to juggle young inexperienced players in key spots trying to find answers to slow opponents’ offense.

This week is the BMW boys of Grace Christian or the pay for play guys from West Knoxville. Grace seems to not be the Grace of the last several years. This may be the year the Green gets the upset, I been picking for years. I predict the Green cures the turnover bug, loses the penalties and shows the mighty Rams what backwoods football is all about. Midway 40 GK 10

Michael Rose:
Grace by more than a couple and yes, I believe the t shirt photo is real.
