Midway had their first district game of the season on Friday, December 8th when the Oakdale Eagles left their nest atop the hillside along the Roane/Morgan County line and visited Ruff Arena. Midway would split with the Eagles with the Lady Wave winning 50-37 while the boys fell 55-68.
The Lady Wave jumped out to a 13-8 lead in the first quarter with balanced scoring from Midway. Oakdale closed the gap a little as they went into the half, trailing 20 to 26.
Balanced scoring was the theme throughout this game from the Lady Wave in their 50-37 win with 7 girls scoring. Kali Kile led with 11 points followed by Addie Armes (10), Kyleigh Cawood (9) and Abbie Parks (8).
The boys had their hands full with a very good and experienced Oakdale team. They boys found themselves down early, with Oakdale knocking down shot after shot in the first quarter to lead 24-13. The Wave were never able to get any momentum and the Eagles soared to the 68-55 win.
Between the girls and boys game, the Midway Hall of Fame inducted its newest members: Randall Woody and Isaiah Ruffner. Both men have contributed greatly to Midway athletics and the community. Randall is the all time leading scorer for MHS basketball with 1,962 points and winner of numerous county, district and region awards. Isaiah has also won numerous county, district, region and state awards as a player and coach.
