Pick Panel Game 4: Midway vs. Coalfield

The Midway Greenwave (2-1) are coming off a hard fought game against Rockwood, simply running out of time in a 27-30 loss to the Tigers. Unnecessary penalties again plagued the Midway offense but despite that, the team still had a chance to win in the final quarter. Midway also endured some injuries during the game including lineman Justice Lane who was removed from the field via stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital. Justice is recovering but it is unknown at this time when he can return.

Tonight, Midway welcomes the bituminous rock heads of Coalfield (3-0) to the emerald forest. Two of the three wins for Coalfield this season have been a blowout, including a 60-0 beat down of Greenback.

Ralton “the mule” Emory was the only panel member to pick Rockwood last week and thus has a 1 game lead on the pack. I expect last weeks performance against Rockwood will cause others to waiver this week. Is anyone willing to call green trumps this week or will the Coalfield offense continue to shoot the moon over their opponents?  Gentlemen, who are you picking?

Ralton (3-0): The Jackets of Coalfield square off against the beloved Mighty GreenWave team this Friday. Inflection point of the season as we will see how the green team responds to the disappointment from last Friday. And while I hope Midway shocks the world, I see them coming up short this week.

Mountain Men 35, Midway 28

Travis (2-1): The Greenwave fell short last Friday due to mistakes on special teams. Reed, back at quarterback, showed he wasn’t rusty, and Midway displayed flashes of their potential. To make this game against Coalfield competitive, they’ll need to cut down on mistakes, limit penalties, and get their offense in high gear. Coalfield, undefeated and coming off a 60-0 rout of Greenback, is in strong form. The big questions are whether O’Toole can fix the issues with mistakes and penalties, and if Satterfield can get the offense clicking and seek redemption for the heavy defeat his old team suffered to Coalfield last week. This will be a tough test for the Greenwave, and I anticipate they’ll come up short. Prediction: Coalfield 35, Midway 21.

Luke (2-1): Tough loss last week to Rockwood, but as we head into week 4 it doesn’t get any easier with Coalfield visiting Midway this week. I’ve heard the Little Debbie fairy hasn’t been to happy with coach O’Toole and told him no more cakes until he wins a game. Rumor has it he has never prepared more for a game than this one this week so he can get his Little Debbie’s next week. For us to win the game I think we will have to get into a shootout and I believe we have the ability to do so. I’m going Midway 40 Coalfield 35

Go Green!

Tyson (2-1): The Midway Green Waves narrowly lost to the Rockwood Tigers, ending the game at 30-27, which brings their record to 2-1.

I squarely place this loss on the shoulders of Ralton Emory for picking the Tigers over the Waves. If we had a unified front on the outcome of the game we would be celebrating a win over Rockwood and sitting at 3-0.

As the Green prepare to face the undefeated Coalfield Yellow Jackets, who come off a decisive 60-0 victory, Midway will need to address their mistakes and penalties while seeking to revive their offensive game. Coach O’s team faces a challenging match ahead but hopes to bounce back and secure a win against a formidable opponent.

Now, if that doesn’t happen, we need to look at this panel and call out the naysayers. It seems that we have a couple Midway OG’s who say their blood runs green setting up shop in Coalfield waving Yellow Jacket flags. Shame, shame….

Waves 36, Coalfield 28

Barry (2-1): Tough loss for the Green Friday night. Hard to go 10 yards then back up 15. Too many dumb penalties. Next up is the University of Coalfield, always a tough out for any non-NIL paying schools. But one of these days it’s gonna happen and I’ll be the pick panel genius that year. Midway 21 Coalfield 20.
